DIRECTIONS FOR CHANGE

OUR PURPOSE

Directions for Change is ambitious in its aspirations for senior leaders in the public sector.  At a time when trust in government and democratic institutions is waning, the enduring value of a strong, capably led public sector is critical to serving Australia’s citizens.

Directions for Change partners with public sector agencies, work groups and individuals to:

  • build capability in their leaders at all levels and to help them challenge the status quo and norms which are getting in the way of progress

  • support leaders to understand the scope and potential to work skilfully with purpose, to exercise leadership and make progress in situations where they feel stuck, and

  • provide a wide range of contemporary leadership tools, including adaptive frameworks and approaches, to address that sense of  being in “over our heads” and overwhelmed with a myriad of competing priorities.

Directions for Change’s engagement with public sector clients is informed by a deep contemporary understanding of the Australian Public Service (APS) and the various reform initiatives that are designed to build a stronger public service with the capability and capacity to better deliver for Australia, now and into the future.

The purpose of Directions for Change is to be a source of provocation, knowledge, learning and encouragement for leaders and organisations to support the achievement of their mission.

This is done by:

  • supporting leaders in building adeptness in clever and tough questioning of themselves, their organisations and others

  • tackling the tough conversations and the “undiscussables” that get in the way of making progress

  • supporting the learning and application of deep listening skills

  • equipping leaders with tools to expand self knowledge, consolidate and build their emotional regulation and self-care

  • building their capability in skilfully applying the craft of being a public servant

  • partnering with leaders who wish to leave a legacy related to their purpose, and

  • partnering to build strong productive cultures which nurture trust, accountability, flexibility, growth, challenge, aspiration and joy.
